DECA kicks-off "Paws"itively Pink Walk-a-Thon benefiting Breast Cancer. We are encouraging all students, faculty, and staff to participate in this awesome event.

 DECA had nine students attend the State Conference in Charleston, SC.  Morgen placed 2nd in Fashion Promotion.  Dylan and Nick placed 4th in Sports and Entertainment.  Fez placed 5th in Technical Sales.  Jamila placed 5th in Entrepreneurship Written.  Khadesha, Daniel, Sammarrra placed in the top 10 in their events.  Rainey participated in the leadership workshops.

DECA had a lot of activities throughout the week.  We offered classes an opportunity to sign up to come to the media center for a computer safety lesson while they could also purchase baked goods from Bearcat Bakery.  We also provided teachers with a snack of their choice. DECA members were invited to decorate a cupcake during lunch.

Hospitality students conducted a lock up for MDA.  Second block students were given the opportunity to lock up their teacher for a day and come to Room 120 for a movie and pizza!  Over $150 was raised, wtih Mrs. Humphries class collecting most--over $122!  Thanks to everyone that supported this great cause!

The Brookland-Cayce DECA Chapter has a walk-a-thon planned for May 8 during lunch and 3rd block!  All of the money raised will benefit The American Red Cross.

Nine students attended the DECA State Competition.  We had a great turnout.  Several students graduated from the Leadership Academy, several others placed in the top 10, and Fez Chinwalla received an honorable mention.  Jamila Ross, our president, accepted the Diamond Level Award for our chapter.

It's Fast, It's Furious...It's The Taste of Cayce!

The spring hospitality class was busy planning the Taste of Cayce...and some would say it was the best ever!  Many local businesses and restaurants stepped up to the plate and donated a variety of items, including wings, mac-n-cheese, and iced tea.  A portion of the proceeds were donated to the American Brain Tumor Association!

The spring marketing class has decided to liven things up with a school dance.  The school dance will be May 15 during 4th block.  Proceeds will benefit Sister Care, a charity for battered and abused women and their children.  Tickets are $5, $4 + item, $3 + 2 items.  The choice is your...classroom or school dance!

This Thursday, the marketing class, along with the DECA Chapter, will host a silent auction benefitting The American Red Cross.  A big thank you to the businesses and individuals that donated.

Eleven students from BC competed in the Region II Competition on December 4, 2008. Dylan Reddy and Morgen Kohn placed 3rd, Daniel Simpson placed 4th, and Mertyse Thompson, Summarra Wigfall, and Jamila Ross placed in the top 10.  Congratulations to all students and Good Luck at State!

DECA conducted a Miracle Minute benefitting the American Red Cross.  On Thursday, October 16, 2008, students visited 1st block to collect spare change for one minute.  Participation was outstanding and we were able to collect over $150.  Congrats to Mrs.Michaud's class and Mrs. Jordan's class for their outstanding participation.

BC is hosting Region II Competition on December 4, 2008.  Important dates to note:

Thursday, October 23, 2008-registration deadline-$14 (+$20 dues)
Thursday, November 20, 2008-testing during 1st block
Thursday, December 4, 2008-role play from 12 noon - 6 p.m.

We had a great time and learned at the same time.  We started with a tour of Adesso, upscale condos in downtown Columbia.  We left there and enjoyed Starbucks at USC's Russell House.  We then took a walking tour of USC, which ended at McCutchen House on the historic Horseshoe.  After a delicious dinner, we shopped The Vista and returned to BC at 3:15 p.m.

DECA meets in Room 120 on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month.
